Jess Hanna is excited to be returning for her seventh year as an Assistant Houseparent in Timmis, working alongside her husband, Mike Danskin, who is a houseparent in Bolton House. Jess enjoys travelling, dancing and loves a good adventure in the outdoors. She has a passion for social justice and holds a master’s in educational psychology with a focus Inclusive Education – she currently works as a Learning Support Teacher with the Victoria school district. Her teaching experience has taken her to the Northwest Territories where she lived in a small, remote community and met her dog Chips, who works regularly as the house dog! Jess is excited to be working in Timmis house again and feels grateful for the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with such fantastic people.
Leanne Hart was born and raised in Victoria. She is thrilled to be returning to Timmis House for her third year as an Assistant Houseparent. A fascination for different cultures and languages prompted her to travel in over 25 countries, so far, and to pursue a degree in linguistics. While abroad she has taught in China, Japan, and Sweden. As Head of the English Language Learning Department, Leanne values the opportunity to teach, and learn about her students’ experiences and perspectives. In addition to travelling, she enjoys photography, crafts, reading, skydiving, and hiking with her family and dog, Piper. Leanne is excited to get to know the Timmis girls and support them to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.
Laurie Parker and Darin Steinkey are the Senior Houseparents in Timmis House and it is their 16th year in boarding. Born in Australia and raised in Alberta, Laurie moved to Victoria to attend the University of Victoria and completed a bachelor’s degree in geography and her master’s in environmental education. She is currently working on her master’s in counselling psychology, working towards becoming a clinical counsellor. In addition to houseparenting, she works in the Leadership and Service department as the Community Engagement Coordinator, so she is heavily involved in the life of the school. Darin owns a media production and publishing company, working in publishing, video, radio and podcasting. They both taught in Korea, and love to travel. They have explored Europe, Mexico, Asia, and parts of Canada and the United States. In her spare time Laurie loves to go to the beach, watch movies, take long walks, read, bake, attempt yoga, practice her French, and plan her next trip in her camper van! She loves living in Timmis, and keeps the well-being of the girls as her top priority.
Amy Stark is ready to begin her fifth year in Timmis as an Assistant Houseparent while also teaching humanities at the SMUS middle school. She hails from northern British Columbia but moved all over Canada growing up. Amy went to university in Prince George and Charlottetown for bachelor’s degrees in history and English and, then, education. She has taught in Canada, Kenya, China, and South Korea. She loves being on an adventure, appreciating the environment, learning about the history and the people, and eating the food. This summer, Amy was able to fit in the road trip north to Prince George and west to Prince Rupert, re-vitalizing that travel bug from dormancy. She can’t wait to hear about your summer, what you’re reading, and where you’re going to eat out!
Tiffany Webber is excited to be with Timmis for her second year as the Senior Assistant. She has been a houseparent for eight years and loves the relationships created through houseparenting. Tiffany was born and raised in Victoria. Although she has lived abroad in Korea and Mexico, and spent twenty years living in Vancouver, she is happy to call the island her home. Tiffany has two children, Jude and Indigo. Jude attends SMUS and he is in grade 10 and Indigo is in grade 8 at Christ Church Cathedral School. Tiffany is passionate about the environment and is a senior school science teacher of anatomy and physiology, and environmental science. In her downtime Tiffany loves to garden, read, travel and bake. Tiffany can’t wait to welcome back all the returning Timmis Tigers and to meet all the new Tigers!
Cindy is a recent SMUS grad (2015) and is very very excited to be back for her second year as a Timmis houseparent! She married Wonjin Kim last year (who is a Bolton houseparent) in a small but beautiful COVID wedding. She was born in Korea and came to Victoria with her family when she was 12. She values her family and the culture of respecting our elders. She is pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Victoria in Biochemistry and Microbiology and doing a project involving neurons and DNA-organizing proteins. You will often find her either snacking, chasing after somebody’s dog, playing with little children, singing, or laughing too loud – or somehow doing all of this at the same time!
